 What is it?
Reiki is one of the most versatile, natural holistic healing methods still in use today because of its emphasis on balancing both the mind, body and spirit. It was originally developed in Japan in the early 1900s by Mikao Usui also known as Usui Sensei to his students. He was born on August 15th 1865 near Nagoya, Japan and always had a keen interest in learning, working hard at his studies. As he grew older, he traveled to Europe and China to further his education where his curriculum included medicine, psychology and religion. He took on a variety of job roles throughout his career where the depth and breadth of his experiences inspired him to direct his attention toward discovering the purpose of life. I think so many of us are in search of greater meaning in relation to the purpose of life, I know I was. It’s a journey I’m still on. It fascinates me, the deeper aspects of life and the human condition, this planet that we’ve chosen to call home, our place in this world and the universe. The fact that so much of what we experience, in its simplest form, is based on energy, frequency and vibration. Usui understood this and also wanted to discover more, to be attuned or connected to a power greater than himself; a pure, universal, loving energy….the energy of creation.  Having suffered from a number of physical health conditions throughout my life, including an autoimmune thyroid condition, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue/ME, crippling anxiety, depression, addiction, hormonal, digestive & sleep issues, I felt that I’d had my fill of illness. All that I wanted was wellness & through these experiences I now know this is possible! But at the time, I said to the Universe….that’s enough for this lifetime, thank you very much, don't you dare give me anything else!
However, it's always through some of our darkest, most challenging moments that our greatest growth & transformation occurs. Those dark nights of the soul can be brutal but emerging out the other side never felt more liberating! Not really possible to have this realization at the time though when we are right in the middle of it! Swearing seems far more appropriate & an absolute desperation to escape it all by any means necessary!  Crystals, Rocks, Stones…..whatever you choose to call them, they are truly a gift from the earth. Not quite sure this is true? Read on….
In the beginning, I just thought they looked pretty and holding them in my hand felt good. I wasn’t sure why this was the case but back then I was only just beginning my healing journey and finding my spiritual path.  With any energy based healing, it is important to develop a basic understanding about our Chakras in relation to Reiki!
The Sanskrit word 'Chakra' literally translates to wheel or disk. In yoga, meditation and Ayurveda, this term refers to wheels of energy throughout the mind-body system. To visualize a Chakra in your body, imagine a swirling wheel of energy that keeps you vibrant, healthy, and alive. |
