Chakras

With any energy based healing, it is important to develop a basic understanding about our Chakras in relation to Reiki!
The Sanskrit word 'Chakra'  literally translates to wheel or disk.  In yoga, meditation and Ayurveda, this term refers to wheels of energy throughout the mind-body system.  To visualize a Chakra in your body, imagine a swirling wheel of energy that keeps you vibrant, healthy, and alive.
 
Since everything in the mind-body energy system is moving, it is essential that your seven main Chakras stay open, aligned and fluid.  If there’s a blockage, energy cannot flow.  These blockages can develop from issues relating to your past or present connected to your emotional, mental, physical and spiritual bodies.  As this blocked energy builds and becomes more congested it can manifest in disease or illness within your mind, body and spirit.

Root (Muladhara):  Represented by the colour red.  Located at the base of the spine.  The root chakra provides the foundation on which we build our life.  It is related to our feelings of safety, security and survival.  This chakra is where we ground ourselves into our physical body, the earth and anchor our energy into the world.

Sacral (Svadhisthana):  Represented by the colour orange.  Located in the lower abdomen about 2 inches above your naval.  This relates to the emotional body as well as our sense of abundance, creativity, pleasure, expression of sexuality and sensuality in relation to desires.

Solar Plexus (Manipura):  Represented by the colour yellow.  Located in the stomach area.  A balanced solar plexus can provide the personal, inner power you desire to accomplish anything so you have a clear direction in life and know the actions you need to take in order to reach your goals.  Issues around lack of self-confidence, self-worth and self-esteem can develop when blockages occur.

Heart (Anahata):  Represented by the colour green.  Located in the centre of the chest this bridges the spiritual (above) and earthly (below) chakras allowing for integration and connection.  It is associated with the many expressions of love and compassion in relation to yourself and others as well as how open we are in relationships. 

Throat (Vishuddha):  Represented by the colour blue.  Located at our throat.  Communication is key and learning to express yourself and your feelings is vital.  The throat chakra helps you to communicate your desires and needs in a way that will be heard but also understood.  It is so important to speak your truth!

 

Third Eye (Ajna):  Represented by the colour indigo.  Located on your forehead/brow between your eyes.  This chakra allows you to see beyond sight, focusing on intuition, imagination and wisdom, connecting us with a different way of seeing and perceiving.  Activating the vision of this chakra is like seeing with your eyes closed, opening up to an intuitive sensibility and inner perception.

Crown (Sahaswara):  Represented by the colour purple.  Located at the top of the head.  Complete connection to the higher self.  When the crown is balanced understanding and awareness begins to develop that, on a universal level, we are all one.  Our connection to spirituality deepens as greater wisdom and knowledge is gained through self awareness and acceptance.
